AARP Secure Horizons

I have a pretty large FMO and dont make more than a few points, do your homework sonny.
Most of my contracts are at MGA level, but I still pay agent level or better. It is very hard to get FMO contracts today, with the companies themselves becoming FMO's, and the large production requirements needed to get the highest comp. I didn't say I was huge, but I did say that I was a FMO, I guess that is a fib, and I apologize.

Now you admit you are a small MGA and not an FMO. Glad you came clean but all this misrepresentation was not necessary. Even so, you first say you're a "pretty large FMO" and now you state "I didn't say I was huge."

No one objects to a few points to someone who actually works, it's just that most (not all) FMOs do nothing to earn their huge overrides.

Hi Fellow Insurance countrymen,

I have been searching this forum "frantically" for info on how to get contracted to sell secure horizons or UHC or AARP or whatever they want to call it this year. I'm in ND and their plan was no good this year but I anticipate it will be much better for 2008. I am tired of getting less than $200 bucks for running around the whole state, chasing B.S. leads that my company is giving me and not mention making me feel like I should be grateful.
I would like to get released I just don't know how to ask without them gouging my eyes out (not literally). HELP? somebody give me some real info here. Coventry looks good at senior market sales but I want this UHC as it is the only one I don't have at my current FMO. UNless I get a release.

Just ask for a release or if you haven't written in 6 months, you don't need one.

PM me with your email address for info on AARP/SH.

Plan in KC:

FYI - Their summary of benefits is on their site.

Their plan for the KC area is poor to moderate at best.

$0 Premium
$3200 MOOP
In patient co-pay - $170 days 1-19!!!
20% on outpatient
$5 Dr
$30 Specialists

Humana and Coventry have that plan beat. This plan is for people who think AARP is the greatest thing out there!

Looks like in the NW Arkansas area they are not looking for any business for 08.

MOOP - $2950
Inpatient/Outpatient - $220.00 days 1 - 14/$0.00 days 15 - 90 / 20% per
visit

Looks like for my clients, Wellcare is the place to go!

The only thing I wil use AARP for is for supplements and only if they need
guaranteed issue.

I'm not so sure that I will renew my contract with them.

first, the AARP product line will not be available here in Georgia. So check the state you're in for availability.

Second, why get beat up at the all day session if my AARP certification for '08 will be meaningless, unless they do an about face in '08 and get these plans approved.

Third, I understand you still have to take those online modules, for S.H. product certification. Those suckers are tough. Am I the only whiner here?

Fourth, considering their plans are average, no leads, OK comm and a multitude of kits per county.....i'm not excited.

I pretty much agree with everything you are saying. They have been hanging their hat on their name recognition (both AARP and Secure Horizons) for a long time, rather than focusing on value.

But, I have renewed my contract and done all the certification. I'm certified with WellCare and Coventry also. Will I use them for anything? Probably not. Today's Options still looks like the plan to beat in most areas.

In parts of California, Aetna has a PFFS with virtually a zero copay for most services with a monthly cost of $55. It's only available in selected areas but even at $3.00+ per gallon, I can afford to drive to those areas for a commission of $625!

Pick the plans you want but if you have the time, get certified with all of then. You never know what the future will hold.

Policy Doc,

You know this to be fact? I wouldn't doubt it, but I just haven't heard anything. I don't understand why they would list a commission for the state of Georgia if it's not available. I'm not looking to sell a lot of it, but I'd like to have it in the arsenal to offer to those that think AARP is the best way to go.

I'm not convinced UHC has their act together. I've received 4 phone calls about my contracting paperwork. Two of them today. One asking for a copy of my E&O (which was included with the original paperwork) and the other asking if I received the new contracting paperwork and if I have sent it in yet.

At this point, nothing would surprise me.

From what I see, in my area (Sacramento) the AARP branded plan ("MA Complete") is an HMO. The other SecureHorizon MAs are PFFS plans. I looked for some of the docs in their online directory and didn't find the ones I use.

What I don't understand is how they expect to be able to sign up agents on an 'exclusive' basis... unless I'm not reading the following correctly. Maybe they mean ONLY their leads? Does not seem to say that. Seems to say you can ONLY sell their MA products, no matter what. Am I wrong here?

-Al

2.4 Exclusivity. Agent shall market, promote and sell the MA Plans (as defined in Section 1.4 above) on an exclusive basis in the service areas as the Company may designate in writing from time to time or may otherwise make such list of service areas available to, and accessible by, Agent. For purposes of this Agreement, "on an exclusive basis" means that Agent shall not in any manner whatsoever market, promote, sell, solicit applications for or otherwise encourage enrollment by any Members, in any county that comprises the Agent's service area, any other products that are similar to the Company MA Plans as set forth in Exhibit A, provided, however, that, for any particular county that comprises the Agent's service area, Agent may continue to receive payments from persons other than the Company, that are payable to Agent for such similar products that Agent sold prior to the date Agent becomes authorized under this Agreement to market, promote and sell Company MA Plans in that particular county. Further, the Company shall notify the Agent from time to time in writing of changes in the specific Products the Agent is authorized to sell on an exclusive basis in each market within the Agent's service area, under this Agreement.

1.4 MA Plan is any Medicare Advantage Plan that may now or in the future be offered to individual Medicare beneficiaries by the Company and subject to this Agreement, including, but not limited to, Local HMO and PPO Plans ("Local MA Plans"), Special Needs Plans ("SNPs"), Regional Preferred Provider Plans, and Private Fee for Service Plans ("PFFS Plans"). The definition of MA Plan includes MA Plans which include prescription drug plan benefits ("MA-PD Plans").

oh you went to that recruiting mtg where they want contract brokers for the selling cycle. Obviously, if they give you a lead be ethical and don't sell that lead with another plan. I would feel the same way if I was feeding an agent leads and he was selling them products for another agency.
