Most people feel it is much more efficient to schedule appointments. I usually schedule them every hour and a half. I write from 10:30am to maybe 5:pm. I will usually schedule 7 to 8 expecting to not be able to meet with everybody. I do make sure to call them If I am not going to make it. I think when you tell them you are just too busy to get to them, they want it even more.
My best days are always with a full day and a half of scheduled appointments. Last week was one of the worst I have seen in a long time. I wrote one. The last 2 months I haven't written less than 5 per week, working a day and a half. Last week I think I wrote 8.
I have door knocked and still do, but only as a last resort. I have found that the ones who don't answer the phone, when door knocked, can be big ones.
