Starting over...

I'm simply responding to the post that I should walk away from people who can't afford what I recommend. That's the most arrogant comment I've seen on this board.

And to infer that I just sold her a Personal Comp plan just to line my pockets?

$18.91 a month baby. Making the big bucks there John. :noteworthy:

There are clients, and there are policyholders.

I look for people that will become clients, which I define as someone who wouldn't think about taking a crap without checking with me first. They value the advice that I provide.

I've found them to be more loyal, provide better referrals, buy more policies, and create far fewer problems.

I try to avoid policyholders. Have found that they create more problems, and will switch if they find a premium that is $10 lower.

The 62 year old smoker lady? Yes, I would decline to get involved with that situation - just not enough dollar return for my time. If someone wants to do that type of altruistic business - God bless 'em!

Exactly where is the post that says someone should walk away from someone that can't afford what I recommend?

Mike Golden1:

Can you recap for us the facts on your Save Right case?

Woman and a 19 year old son? What's the age of the woman? Any health issues?

You are here in Florida? What's the first three digits of the zipcode in this case?

Can't speak for other states, but in GA.

LT max - $2M

Outpt max - $15k or $25k

Rx - $2k, option to buy up to LT max

Ambulance - $1k

Home health care - $0

Transplants - Ambiguous

38 YO female + 1 child in Atlanta

One Deductible with $5700 + 100% = $176; SR HSA with $25k outpt & LT max on Rx $5100 = $131

For $45/month they are buying a much better plan and I can sleep at night.

Past behavior dictates future results. For some reason this is turning negative and each person has stated where they stand. So unless anyone has anything to add on the original topic I see no reason to go over and over and over it.

Here's something new...

Assuming a 49 year old female non-tobacco with 19 year old full time student son in zipcode 34787 (Winter Garden FL):

Assurant/Time
Save Right HSA PPO w/ $3,000 family deductible, then 100%. PHCS network. 2 million lifetime max. $25,000 outpatient maximum. Premium - $272.

UHC/Golden Rule
HSA100 PPO w/$3,800 family deductible, then 100%. UHC Choice Plus network. 5 million lifetime max. $5,000,000 outpatient maximum.
Premium - $282.

Which would you suggest to your prospective client?

Assurant - every time. I like to sell policies - not rent them. And what difference would it make when GR riders all pre-ex conditions? No drug coverage if they're currently on meds? Almost every GR client I've had is screaming at month 18. You can you get them new biz rates? Nope - GR doesn't allow that.

Am I commission driven? You tell me:

Assurant: 25% full year advance
Golden Rule: 25% full year advance

So don't throw the commission argument at me. I've sold enough GR (a lot of it actually) to know that I don't like offering them.

First of all, the case didn't assume pre-x or meds (didn't get a reply from Mike Golden1). Didn't say anything about commissions either.

Both plans are filed as association group plans here in Florida, so renewal increases are brutal on both. I have a fair amount of both on the books.

Consider:

Same zipcode (34787), 50M & 49F, both N/T. Even assuming preferred with Assurant. $5,650, $5,700 deductible level, shared.

Assurant/Time $ 478
UHC/GR $ 318

So you want Assurant new business rates?

The outpatient max doesn't make any difference at all?

I've never had a claims issue with Assurant and have had several with GR. I don't care if GR's rates are $100 less and they're throwing in a free bag of chips - I've stopped selling them. If you love 'em then more power to ya. Let's put it this way - I went to GRs broker seminar last year. It turned into one huge bitch-fest as their top key brokers laid into the speaker about customer service issues.

I don't recommend the cheapest. I recommend the best. If you want to sell cheap then go ahead.
