I don't recruit now, but I used to. Of course that was many years ago, and things may have changed. At that time it was fairly standard practice to request protected status of a potential recruit, usually for 3 to 6 months.
Whether or not it's the norm now, I would feel shafted if a "friend" was talking to me about an opportunity, but then used the info he got from me to leverage a nickel higher contract with a different manager in the same company. Do people not value loyalty anymore?
