Objection

Yep- echos are tiresome.

But seriously, I couldn't add anything of value to the question anyway. I do not cold call or cold doorknock.

It would seem that would be the most inefficient use of time that I could think of. Of course people are going to blow you off. Only about 1% of a targeted market respond to the mailers.

Finding that 1% by cold calling and doorknocking everyone? Where's the haystack? I would rather look for that needle. Or, as Frank would say, "I would rather walk thru broken glass barefooted than to do that".:D

I would venture that none of the ones giving advice on how to do it actually sell any insurance that way.

Finally...bringing some sanity to the madness.

Perhaps only 1% will respond to a mailing there is a much larger percentage that is actually interested and will respond favorably to a direct approach.

I would be willing to say that the vast majority of the folks that I have sold over the years never sent in a reply card in their life ..but they did buy insurance when I called on them.

Then why aren't there hundreds of $200,000 FE producers out there cold calling and cold doorknocking?

Your going to have to hit more than that. When I knock on doors I will get about 6 appoinments for every three hours I spend knocking. In three hours I cover 100's. You can do it pretty fast because no one really answers.

Knocking on doors should be a last resort though. Always try to buy leads. Some agents don't have to.... but they have been in the biz a long time and have their book built up. I only knock on doors when I run out of leads. And I target areas that I already sold a policy in so I can name drop. I also buy a list so I know the name of the person I am trying to solicit. It goes like this:

"Hi Mary! Im Mr. Fretfrek with the so and so plan. I was in the area visiting one of my clients, your neighbor Big Mamma, and she told me that you might benefit from this plan so I thought I would stop by and explain. Do you currently have burial insurance."

"What!! You don't know who Big Mamma is. Everyone on the block knows Big Mamma. She had nothing but nice things to say about you. And highly recommended me to visit"

The point is to get them talking and either set and appointment or sit at the table. Don't take too much time you have a lot af houses hit if you want make it door knocking!!!!

This really brought I smile to my face :). You seem to be doing really good at this! Your script is much better. Thanks.
I do, however, use a similar script. Although, I never sold anyone in their neighborhood, when they answer the door, I say: "My name is Fretrek, I am with.....and I was just over at your neighbor's helping her with a little burial insurance plan. Do you have a burial insurance plan? Would you like to take five minutes to see what you qualify for?"

What part of Cali are you in? Can I hitch a ride with you? You can take a cut out of my commish.

What do you wear when you're out door knocking? My head and neck are completely sunburned. It's been around 100 degrees here in the valley. Do you wear a hat?

This is the best offer and advice you have gotten. You need to be captive and trained somewhere.

You will hear that they are over priced and so on. BFD! Before I found this forum I did not know there was a FE market. The SIWL I sold was all one company and it is not a price leader. As far as I know I have never been replaced by RNA, Monumental, Foresters or any of the "top" FE companies. Never heard of them till I came here. I of course now have them.

To you specifically, You need the training. With LH, SL or any of the other FE shops out there I would caution you on getting buried alive by lead cost.

Get up at 4am drive down to meet this guy work all day with him then drive home. Easy Spesy. There is no reason not to take him up on it. Zero! Just do it!

A hat!!!! Im a 27 year old mexican I have a beautiful thick head of hair I don't need a hat!! Lol. I wear slacks and a polo with an ID badge that has my picture and my license number on it.

I'm in the central valley near fresno so if you can make it up here we can do a ride along. You need it! Bad! No commission split necessary unless we are working my leads.

I also have an agent in LA that works that specific market. He might be more help than myself. But it would be hard to set up a ride along with him because time is the most important thing to a Final Expense agent. But I could arrange a phone call.

Thanks, much appreciated. What company are u with?
